Efficiency in set-up achieved across all processes
A manufacturer of systems and components for plastics processing produces high-precision assemblies for granulation and filter systems. To ensure that these components function reliably, they must be manufactured to the tightest tolerances. In order to keep machine running times high and set-up times low, the manufacturer has been relying on modular workpiece clamping technology from AMF for many years. Zero-point clamping systems in particular contribute to making production efficient and flexible across all processes.
Modularity creates flexibility
The components are produced on several 3-, 4- and 5-axis machining centres and turning/milling centres. Milling, drilling, reaming, turning and honing are often carried out in alternating process sequences. To ensure that machine and process changes can be carried out without time-consuming retooling, AMF clamping solutions are used at all stations. Clamping plates with hole patterns, hydraulic zero-point clamping modules from the KH10 and KH20 series, block- clamping systems and collets provide the necessary flexibility. The concept is complemented by clamping pillars, which can also be positioned quickly and precisely using zero-point clamping modules.
Flat plug-and-play without compromise
It is important that the clamping technology has a flat design despite high forces. This allows even large workpieces to be machined safely without exceeding the machine's interference circle or risking collisions. The installation modules used allow for numerous combination options and can be quickly changed according to the plug-and-play principle. Hydraulic screw-in modules pull in workpieces with up to 20 kN and hold them securely with up to 55 kN. After clamping, the pressure line can be disconnected because the locking is mechanical.
Precision through holding force and repeat accuracy
The repeat accuracy of the clamping processes is less than 0.005 millimetres. This precision is crucial, as the manufactured components – such as large-diameter cylinders or perforated plates for granulation systems – must comply with the tightest tolerances. This is the only way to ensure consistent quality, process reliability and the required performance of the systems. Hardened covers and pistons also ensure long-lasting and low-wear use of the clamping modules.
Modular clamping technology as a productivity factor
The combination of modern machine technology and modular workpiece clamping technology from AMF has significantly increased manufacturing productivity. Short set-up times, high flexibility and reproducible precision make it possible to manufacture even complex components economically. Clamping technology thus makes a significant contribution to efficiently meeting increasing demands and growing quantities in plastics processing.
